Rhossili Bay is a jewel in the crown of the Gower and has been voted Wales’ Best Beach 2018 and 3rd in the UK in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. The beach, standing at 3 miles long, is home to Worms Head, one of South Wales most famous landmarks.Rhossili Bay has been critically acclaimed Nationwide, with The Independant describing it as ‘The supermodel of British Beaches’ and The Times nominating it as ‘The UK’s No.1 dog-friendly beach’, being open to dog walkers all year round. It has also won various other awards from many UK Travel Writers.
- Due to the Atlantic swell the bay is also ideal for many watersports, with surfing being very popular amongst the many users of the bay. So its little wonder that it has been consistently touted as one of the UK’s most popular destinations.
- The views all along the bay are simply stunning and can be enjoyed from the many walking routes available. If you are lucky you may even spot the local dolphins playing in the surf or the seals who like to use the beach to bask.
- There is plenty of history to be taken in too, from the ocean stripped, oak carcass of the Helvetia, which came to settle on the bay in 1887 to even learning about Rhossili born Edgar Evans, who joined Robert Falcon Scott’s expeditions to the Antarctic and sadly died in the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition in 1912.
- The Coastwatch Centre on worms head, which was built to assist in the protection and preservation of life at sea and around the coastline, and understandably offers unparalleled views of the surrounding area.
