- Donna Masters 15/08/2025The waterfall was beautiful the access is rough not fit for disabled people if you are unsteady on your feet I would not recommend this steep trek for you. Better steps are needed and more signs to show the way in and out of the falls myself and my daughter and grandsons got lost in the way back to the car park. The burger van staff were rude at times but the food was good but expensive all in all a good day out if you are fit enoughread moreread lessJames Westwood 13/08/2025Waterfall is great, but the walking track can be a bit tricky at times - weather dependant.read moreread less
- Austin Bappe 12/08/2025It was beautiful, but I wouldn’t call the hike easy for young children. It was 22C the morning we visited and, as they say, “it’s not the heat that gets you, it’s the humidity”. Very little airflow in the ravine, humid as a bog, and very very steep trails both ways. Rocks were slick and wet as well. It’s beautiful and was worth it, but I would not recommend for kids under 6, especially since you’ll be carrying them out! 🫠 Also trash trash trash everywhere. If I didn’t have to haul my kids out I could have hauled a full 50 liter bag of trash!read moreread lessDJ Reviews & Reveals 12/08/2025Henrhyd Falls is an absolutely stunning spot tucked away in beautiful countryside. The walk down is quite steep, winding through lush greenery with the sound of rushing water getting louder as you go. It’s not a long walk, but it is a tough one if you have mobility problems — the path can be uneven and gets very slippery after rain, so sturdy footwear is a must. When you reach the falls, the view is simply breathtaking. The water cascades dramatically into the pool below, and you can even walk behind the curtain of water, which is a magical experience in itself. As a huge Batman fan, this was extra special for me — Henrhyd Falls was used as the entrance to the Batcave in The Dark Knight Rises, so standing there felt like stepping into a movie scene. A little challenging to get to, but completely worth the effort for the scenery, the atmosphere, and that unforgettable view from behind the waterfall.read moreread less

- Kirsty Harper 01/08/2025A beautiful waterfall to visit, especially with young children who won't manage the longer walks for some other waterfalls in the area. We had a 5 and a 7 year old and they loved it. A steep walk down and back up but only takes less than 10 minutes. We took beach shoes and a towel for a little paddle at the bottom. We arrived around 4.30pm and managed to get into the free car park - but if it's very busy the field next door is the overflow car park, charging £5. Worth visiting late afternoon though - less busy for the free car park and less crowded for photos!read moreread less

Waterfall is quite different to get down to from the car park for those that struggle with steep hills, slipping or tall steps. Easy to get to. Not far from the car park. A little slipper if you come later in the day as the first round of people whom swim starts walking back will get the trail wet. - Serita Vossen (Boost je Paardenbusiness) 22/07/2025Nice waterfall, a short but quite steep walk, down and up again to the waterfall. You also need to use some stairs to get there. We arrived during the summer holiday in the afternoon on a tuesday, the normal and quite small park was full. Guess if we waited for a bit we could have parked there, we choose to go to the overflow carpark and pay 5£. - Aaron Clarke 16/07/2025Tall and spectacular waterfall. Easy to travel to by car and a good sized car park at the top of the trail. This car park is also free. Overflow car park on site for those busy days but there is a charge of £5 for this. During my visit in July there was a burger van at the top of the trail selling drinks food and even ice cream. They take card payments. The car park has an information board of the area and waterfall. To get to the falls you need to walk down a fairly steep trail down then across a bridge over the river that flows down from the falls and back up some wooden steps to the other side to get there. Once at the falls you can walk a small trail running to the side, careful of slippery rocks even in summer but this leads behind the falls where there is quite a space to either sit or take pictures in relative safety. At the foot of the falls there is a pool that you can take a dip in. Be aware this is mountain water so it is very cold even in Summer.read moreread lessSantosh Sundar 13/07/2025Amazing Waterfall. Flip flops and Crocs even in sports mode might not cut it. About a 25 mins walk maybe from the car park, It's the falls they used in one of the Batman films and when you see it, it's obvious why. - Kathryn Hicks 16/04/2025I really love visiting this waterfall. There is a car park which is easy to park in, although part of the road leading up to it is single lane but with passing points. There is an overflow car park for busy days, which has a burger van where you can purchase food, tea, and coffee after your visit to the waterfall. The path down to the waterfall is easy to follow. All I would say is when it's been raining, do take extra care, especially when crossing the wooden bridge as it can be slippery. The waterfall really is amazing to see, and you can walk behind it. Again, take extra care when navigating the path to do this. Highly recommend a visit. It took us around 27mins up and down.read moreread lessGoldoak Goldoak 15/04/2025Fab waterfall. - Steven 14/04/2025Standing at 90ft, this is the tallest waterfall in South Wales. You can even walk behind the cascade, famously featured as the Batcave in The Dark Knight Rises. It's sad to see some visits spoiled by misunderstandings about what Henrhyd falls is and what is has to offer, so if you're unfamiliar to natural attractions and waterfalls and would like to visit, I'd recommend noting the following points:1. This is a natural feature with paths maintained by National Trust for access, but it is not a large tourist facility - expect a more... rugged... experience.2. Water flow depends on rainfall; it’s best after rain but paths may get muddy.3. Sturdy approach footwear (e.g. boots) is recommended: it can be slippery and wet.4. A moderate level of fitness is required.5. Steep paths and uneven terrain make it unsuitable for prams or wheelchairs.6. Don't expect to have the place to yourself; it can be busy, especially on weekends. Visit early or on weekdays for a quieter time.7. There are no bins or toilets on-site—take rubbish home and plan ahead.8. There is a free car park nearby, but it fills quickly. This is a rural area and wasn't built with cars in mind, so expect narrow country lanes.read moreread less

About
The ‘Batman’ Waterfall is the highest single drop fall in South Wales, tucked away on the western edge of the Brecon Beacons, near the upper Swansea valley.Henrhyd Falls is a spectacular and beautiful waterfall with a unbroken drop of 90ft (27m) making it the highest waterfall in the Brecon Beacons national Park. The waterfall is owned by the National Trust and entry is free.Access
Henrhyd Waterfall is located in a deep wooded gorge which is accessible only by walking down a steep but well maintained footpath. Allow 20-30 mins each way. The walk takes you through a native woodland of Oak and Ash. A foot bridge across the river Nant leech at the bottom of the Gorge leads to a path that takes you to the waterfall itself. Particular care should be taken as you near the waterfall because the path becomes narrow, the surface more uneven and is often wet and slippery from the spray the waterfall produces. It is possible to make your way along a narrow, stony and uneven path behind the waterfall which extreme care. It is strongly advised not to try this when fall is in full flow as the spray makes it almost impossible to stand on the narrow rocky path. If you have children with you then especial care should be taken to surpass them throughout this walk.Batmans Waterfall
Henrhyd Waterfall also known locally as the Batcave after a cameo appearance in the Batman movie ‘The dark Knight Rises’. In the movie after receiving a package from Bruce, Blake locates the hidden waterfall entrance to the Batcave.Parking
A small unattended national Trust Carpark can be found at the top of the access footpath. There are several information boards showing the route of the walk.Alternative route
A longer and very scenic trail through the Nant Llech Gorge taking in several smaller falls on the way can be found near the village of Abercrave and takes approx 2 hours each way. This trail joins the main access path near the wooden bridge at the bottom of the gorge. See Nant Llech Trail for details.Photos
