Jan and Graham Garen, the Trustees of Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary , welcome you to our Sanctuary. We are located in the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park area of South Wales in the Upper Swansea Valley. The BBNP has been officially designated as a Geopark because of its unique geological formations. The Sanctuary was established in 1999 to rescue and provide a much needed permanent home for many types of unwanted animals. especially primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, capuchins and marmosets
We welcome visitors to see the animals and the work we do. All of them have come from zoos or laboratories or the pet trade and some have suffered considerable mistreatment and deprivation in their earlier lives. As they are not equipped for survival in the wild we can only endeavour to make the rest of their lives as enjoyable and stress free as possible. We have a non-breeding policy and we never take animals from their country of origin where they may have a chance of being released.
